Bach video

As promised, here's a clip from my first experiment with digital video. It's the beginning of the Bach First Suite Prelude. Please excuse the camera work (I filmed it myself), the truncated length (YouTube cut me off), and the intonation (my fault!)

Very nice. The clip inspired me to go home and practice. Not to take anything away from the playing -- and realizing you may have covered this elsewhere -- but can you tell us something about the bass you're playing?

All I can say is...

POST MORE!

Really great playing. I can't wait to hear the rest of this, and maybe hear some excerpts!

Thanks so much, I'll post more video soon!

I don't think I ever properly credited my bass, which was made by Antonia Gilbertini, c. 1830. It's seen a lot of restoration work by the Kolsteins in New York, and some more by the Robertsons in Albuquerque, which is where I found it.

Both your bow technique and playing are wonderful!

Wow, good job. I'm suddently very grateful that much of this is playable in 1st position on my instrument (cello).

Nice work!...What kind of camera did you get? I'd be interested to see you write a post about what you think of the external appearance factor in performance, and I'll probably do the same.

Thanks for this video.

I have never quite played nor practised this piece before, and when someone came up to me after a performance to ask if I could play it, I had to say "sorry" and "no".

I hope you won't mind me putting this video up for him to listen to on d'Bassists' blog (if he ever visits the blog)?

Matt, what a treat to see and hear you play! More, please!

Also, congratulations! I hope you will stay in touch with the little people here on the beach ... :-)

You are giving lonelygirl15 a run for the money!

Seriously - nice playing. This would be a nifty format for bass lessons over the web. One could camera in on the left or right hand as needed and get different angle shots for multiple perspectives - i.e. thumb placement, fingerings, bow movement, right arm patterns...
